Fatal Boating Incident
2 Men Ejected From Watercraft
On July 1st, at approximately 4:45 p.m., RCMP, EHS, fire services, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) responded to a report of individuals being ejected from a boat on Aylesford Lake. Officers discovered that five men from Kings County were in a boat when two passengers were thrown from the vessel due to a change in the water's surface.
A 70-year-old male from Aylesford was discovered in the water by a nearby uninvolved boater and was later pronounced deceased at the scene. Search efforts are currently underway to locate the second individual, a 58-year-old male from Aylesford. The JRCC, Valley Ground Search and Rescue, and Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) are engaged in the search, along with the Nova Scotia RCMP Underwater Recovery Team. A significant police and first-responder presence is anticipated in the area surrounding Aylesford Lake as the investigation progresses. The three remaining individuals in the boat reported no injuries.
RCMP had this to say;
"Fortunately, the three men remaining in the boat escaped unharmed. The investigation is ongoing, and we look forward to a thorough understanding of the events. Our thoughts are with the deceased man’s loved ones, and we hope they find strength and resilience during this challenging time."
